Day at Sea

This is our first sea day, and I was ready for a little relaxation! I didn't sleep in too much, as I had a cooking class at 9:00am Luckily I had another great sleep, it was so calm I could hardly tell we were moving.

Colleen and I were a few minutes late for the cooking class, and the others were a step or two ahead. So we had to chop and stir franticly to catch up! The Salt Lab where the classes take place is a lovely well set up space. And all of the cooking classes are included (as long as there is space). We made some typical Northern Spain dishes. Mussels in a wine and chorizo sauce, and hake with potatoes. Simple dishes, but very flavorful!

It feels a bit cooler today as we're underway, but it was still very pleasant walking around the decks. In the morning we were out of sight of land, but by afternoon the coast of Spain came into view. There have been a few freighters and fishing boats.

I joined a "coffee chat with an officer" which was very interesting. We were able to ask questions and find out about the ship from their perspective.

I needed to take care of a few chores before heading to the gym. Then up to the pool deck for a light lunch and a hot tub. When I came back to the cabin I found a towel elephant with a selection of teas. I had mentioned to the room steward that I would like another herbal tea-bag, but I wasn't expecting such a lovely presentation. A few minutes later the Butler knocked on the door bringing some cookies to have with my tea! I have to say that the service has been excellent.

In the afternoon we had an opportunity to tour the bridge and meet the Captain, which was  interesting and of course a great view from there. The bridge is certainly very high tech! And no pictures allowed.

As today was Canadian Thanksgiving, our little group met for dinner in S.A.L.T. Kitchen. (stands for Sea and Land taste.) The concept is to serve food from the areas that we are cruising in. I had duck liver mousse with a slice of duck breast as my starter, with a seafood platter of clams, mussels and crab as my main. A sherry ice-cream with a knotted donut for dessert. All delicious!

Afterwards most of us went to the show lounge for a rock and roll show led by the cruise director Moss. A very fun show. Afterwards I stopped in to listen to the piano player for a few songs, before heading off to bed.
