From Desk to Dawn

 


I'm at my desk, working hard before I head off on my next trip. This time I'm flying to Lisbon and cruising on Silversea's Silver Dawn. This is my first time cruising on Silversea, although I've toured their ships several times in Vancouver. I can't wait!

Lisbon - Silver Dawn

 I had a great sleep for the first half of the night. The second half quite wakeful. I got up just after 7am and went for a short walk before Colleen woke up. A nice morning, with a bit of high cloud and about 17C. A fair number of people out starting their day, both tourist and local. We had a lovely breakfast at the hotel in another very ornate room and met up with several of the other people in the group. After breakfast we had time for a walk up Avenue des Liberdade , and checked out a market on the way. We both ended up making purchases! At noon we checked out of the hotel and got the transfer to the Silver Dawn . A fairly short check-in process, then on to the ship to one of the lounges for a champagne and caviar reception . The rooms were going to be ready at 2pm, so we toured the ship to check it out. I must say it all looks lovely! About 600 passengers, and very spacious. Then to our room to unpack. Vancouver - Heathrow - Lisbon

  A smooth journey on British Airways Premium Economy. All my flights were on time or early. The flights were full as always seems to be the way these days! And Heathrow was very busy, again as usual. I had been hearing reports of Lisbon Airport crowding and lineups, but it may depend on when you arrive. I was mid-week and early evening and had no issues. They are gearing up for the new arrival procedures for the E.U. starting next week. A short wait for my transfer, and some traffic getting to the Avenida Palace hotel in the heart of Lisbon. It's a beautiful property, with grand public rooms, a marble and iron staircase and a great location. I met up with my friend and colleague Colleen, then decided on an early night after a long day!
